Pempek Corner, Sunset Road
Syifa
Hey there! So, I recently checked out Pempek Corner Sunset Road in Kuta, Bali, and I thought I’d share my chill experience with you all. This place is located right next to Laota/Furama Restaurant on Jl. Sunset Road, and here’s the lowdown:
Food: 2.5/5.0
Service: 5.0/5.0
Atmosphere: 3.0/5.0I ordered a few dishes like Pempek Kapal Selam, Tekwan, and Pempek Lenjer (3pcs). Honestly, all the food was pretty tasty! But I did notice some comments from other diners that the prices are quite high compared to other pempek places around Denpasar. Plus, some said the fish flavor seems to have decreased a bit, but the cuko (the sauce) was definitely on point!
One reviewer mentioned, “I had the omelet to go, tasty and hit the spot. The lady was very polite and took such care cooking food, removing extra oil, and packaging the food. It is a small place next to a busy road, so don’t expect a spa atmosphere :)”
On the flip side, I also came across a not-so-great review: “Not tasty at all. The staff are rude.” Ouch! But hey, that’s the beauty of reviews, right? You get a mix of experiences.
Another quirky comment was, “Great way to absorb jobless people.” Not sure what that means, but it definitely made me chuckle!
Overall, I had a decent time at Pempek Corner. The service was top-notch, and I’d say it’s worth a visit if you’re in Bali. I’d definitely come back again when I’m in the area!

As I stepped into Pempek Corner on Sunset Road in Bali, I was filled with a sense of nostalgia, a longing for the flavors of my childhood. The restaurant promised authentic Pempek, a dish that holds a special place in my heart, reminiscent of my mother’s cooking and cherished family vacations. However, my experience was a bittersweet journey through memories that fell short of expectations.
Upon tasting the signature dish, I was met with disappointment. The Tekwan was a chaotic blend of flavors, lacking the distinct taste of fish that I had hoped for. The sauce was nothing special, and with prices that felt steep for what was served, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my cravings for Pempek remained unfulfilled. One reviewer lamented, “The Pempek has no fish flavor, and the sauce is not special. If you really want to eat Pempek, it’s better to look for another place.” This sentiment echoed in my heart as I yearned for the authentic taste that was missing.
While the ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant, I found the service lacking. One customer noted, “The staff seemed busy with their own matters, even while taking orders.” This distracted atmosphere detracted from the experience, making it hard to fully immerse myself in the flavors I craved. Another review mentioned, “The food was just average, and I was left feeling disappointed after spending 250,000 IDR.” It was a reminder that sometimes, the memories we hold dear can be overshadowed by reality.
Yet, amidst the critiques, there were glimmers of hope. A fellow diner shared, “It’s decent enough to satisfy my longing for Pempek and Mie Celor.” This resonated with me, as I too found a small comfort in the familiar dishes, even if they didn’t quite hit the mark. The restaurant’s effort to bring a taste of Palembang to Bali is commendable, and I appreciated the attempt to recreate those cherished flavors.
In reflection, Pempek Corner may not have fully captured the essence of my childhood memories, but it did touch my heart in a different way. It reminded me of the importance of food in connecting us to our past, even when the flavors don’t quite match our expectations. As I left the restaurant, I carried with me a mix of nostalgia and hope, knowing that the search for the perfect Pempek continues, but also cherishing the moments that brought me back to my roots, however imperfectly.
