Hey there! So, I recently checked out this chicken spot called Ayam Tulang Lunak Malioboro in Kuta, Bali, and I gotta say, it was quite the experience! The place has a solid rating of 4.7 for food, 5.0 for service, and 5.0 for atmosphere, which is pretty impressive. Plus, the prices are super reasonable, around Rp50,000-75,000 per person.
I ordered a few things like Nasi Putih, Paket 1, and Sayur Asem, and let me tell you, everything was delicious! I even heard someone say, “Thank you, sir, for delivering the order safely. The food is so good that I’m a regular now, thanks!” And I totally get it! I really enjoyed it when I first tried it last June, which is why I reordered again while I was in Bali. I even got some extra to bring back to Singapore for my family to enjoy!
However, there was a little hiccup. I had clearly noted that I wanted “not spicy at all because it’s for a toddler,” but what I got was super spicy! If they can’t handle the spice level, they should really communicate with the customer first. I ended up waiting a long time and was starving, but I just couldn’t eat it. Total bummer!
Now, I did come across some mixed reviews from other visitors. One person mentioned, “Most drivers will bring you here for the 1st meal, try to avoid. There are 2 sets of menus: one for tourists and one for locals. Please avoid this place.” Ouch! Another review said, “Simple restaurant that serves a variety of Indonesian-style chicken and fish dishes. The sauces and chili for the chicken dishes were excellent, but the chicken itself was too dry for me.” They also noted that the service was good, but the food took a while to arrive, even with the restaurant being half-filled.
Another guest said, “The food isn’t bad, but this being a recommended restaurant of drivers’ choice is. It’s celebrating mediocrity and leaves a bad taste in visitors’ mouths because the dishes here were pretty forgettable.” And one more mentioned, “Food was damn crispy, but we found it a bit sweet, which is not so great. But it actually worked with rice and drink… fine. Our order was a bit late, so we were damn hungry. After like 30 mins, we got our orders.”
Despite the mixed reviews, I had a good time and would definitely come back to Ayam Tulang Lunak Malioboro if I find myself in Bali again. It’s a chill spot with some tasty chicken dishes, just gotta be careful with the spice level next time!
