If you’re ever in Bali and craving some authentic Indonesian food, you might want to check out Warung Pondok Pengkolan. It’s located at Jl. Buana Raya Gang Buana Mekar No. 6 in Denpasar. Now, let me give you the lowdown on my experience there.

So, I went there for dinner and ordered a few dishes: NASI SAMSAM GULING LAWAR BABI KUAH KIKIL BALUNG, NASI SAMSAM LAWAR SERAPAH + KUAH BALUNG DAGING BESAR, and of course, a refreshing ES TEH BOTOL. Honestly, all the food was pretty tasty! But I did come across some mixed reviews from other diners. One person mentioned that they ordered the meat bone but ended up with the meat skin, which was too salty. They said, “Good food, very delicious, but the skin was hard. I’ve bought it often but never got the crispy one.” Another review pointed out that the portion of the meat bone has decreased from two pieces to just one, suggesting they should close if they can’t maintain quality!

On the brighter side, another guest said, “The food is delicious, and the place is nice even though it’s inside a house. The skin of the samsam is crispy, not chewy, and the meat is tasty without that strong pork smell. Just wish the white lawar had a bit more flavor, but the seller was friendly!”
