If you’re ever in Mataram, you absolutely have to check out Ramayana Indonesian Restaurant on Jl. Saleh Sungkar No. 23. Seriously, this place is a gem! I recently dropped by for lunch and let me tell you, it was a delightful experience. The food? A solid 5.0/5.0! The service? Another 5.0/5.0! The atmosphere was cozy, scoring a 4.3/5.0, which is pretty good for a casual dining spot.

I ordered a few dishes like Gado Gado, Es Campur, and Es Kacang Ijo, and everything was just delicious! The flavors were spot on, and I could totally see why someone said, “the taste of the dishes is well-maintained.” It really does taste different from what it used to be, but in a good way! Ramayana has always been top-notch, just like someone mentioned, “the spices are like the spices in somai.” You can really taste the love and tradition in every bite.

Other diners were raving about the oxtail soup, lontong CGM, and of course, the gado-gado. One review said, “Delicious and tasteful dishes. Its oxtail soup, lontong CGM, and gado-gado are highly recommended.” And I couldn’t agree more! Another guest mentioned that the oxtail soup is the best, and that the gado-gado and soto ayam were not bad either. They even said it’s a Mataram legend since the 70s! Just a heads up, the prices aren’t listed on the menu, but I found it pretty reasonable, around Rp100,000 for everything we ordered.

One of my friends told me that this restaurant is a legend in Mataram, and I can see why. The food we ordered was so delicious, rich in flavor, and the portions were generous. The gado-gado is definitely a must-try, especially with that peanut sauce that tastes like it’s mixed with roasted sesame. The mix fruit ice and green bean ice were also tasty! Plus, the restaurant has this old-school vibe that I really loved, and the restrooms were clean, which is always a plus.

So, if you’re looking for authentic Indonesian food, Ramayana is the place to be. Our private driver even mentioned that this restaurant has been around for many years and is a favorite among locals. I can’t wait to go back the next time I’m in Mataram!
